for the purpose of this poll, mini-roman bids are not allowed. You hold.

Scoring: IMP

Pass (Pass) YOUR BID

If you think your bid is right, but non-standard, please argue for it in your reply.

1 may be "standard" but I foresee no rebids problems so I open the minor I want partner to lead.

I prefer 1 but have no real qualms with either minor and rebidding 1NT over 1.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I open 1. Lead-directing is a useful guide to these 3rd seat openers, but my diamonds are not so weak, compared to the clubs, that I want to avoid a diamond lead.

Plus I have a sound opener, so prefer to bid normally.... saving the tactical calls for one-bid hands.

Finally, while I can handle most sequences reasonably well after either minor, there are some in which I will want to be able to show both minors, and I won't usually be able to do so after 1.

This is not one of those hands where I lament not being allowed to use mini-roman. One Diamond is fine.

The poll is at 12-6 in favor of 1. I'm reconsidering my vote for 1.

At the time, I was thinking: either minor is ok, but I'd rather have a club lead. I'm rebidding 1NT over 1.

Now I'm thinking: pard may be able to raise diamonds because he'll assume I have at least 4. Pard may not be so willing to compete in clubs.

I'd like to change my vote please.

1. Not a fan of the 1NT rebid with a singleton. Not because I'm worried about NT (singleton king in the declaring hand is fine), but because I want partner to habitually rebid spades with 5 of them. The 5-2 fits play about as well as 1NT, and the 5-3 fits play better. It's imperfect, but it keeps me from missing 5-3 fits, and it keeps me from finding 5-1 fits.

Hmmmmm... i can't think of ANY hand on which I would lament the loss of the least useful convention ever devised :D

And therefore you don't play it. Some players like it because it fills a gap in their system, allows negative inferences from failure to use it (too strong, not 4441, etc), and gives perfect count to partner if the defenders enter the auction frivolously.

Others don't like it, or don't wish to work out the follow-ups, or share your opinion for various other good reasons. Some might even think that Flannery wins the "most useless" contest.

Easy 1 for me. Playing a T-Walsh version where a rebid of 1NT over 1 (=) shows 1-2 spades, this is a non-problem.
Kind regards,
Harald

This is 1 for me, and I don't like bidding 1nt with stiff in partner's suit and generally don't. That said, for this hand, I would do it over 1 (and with another Q or opening weak nt I'd open 1nt).

1D.

But this is a systemic question, if you have to open 1C or 1D.
Since you dont play a weak NT, 1NT is out, if you want to go
creative, you can try out Pass.

With kind regards
Marlowe
