Plus I have a sound opener, so prefer to bid normally.... saving the tactical calls for one-bid hands.
Finally, while I can handle most sequences reasonably well after either minor, there are some in which I will want to be able to show both minors, and I won't usually be able to do so after 1♣.

At the time, I was thinking: either minor is ok, but I'd rather have a club lead. I'm rebidding 1NT over 1♠.
Now I'm thinking: pard may be able to raise diamonds because he'll assume I have at least 4. Pard may not be so willing to compete in clubs.
I'd like to change my vote please.

And therefore you don't play it. Some players like it because it fills a gap in their system, allows negative inferences from failure to use it (too strong, not 4441, etc), and gives perfect count to partner if the defenders enter the auction frivolously.
Others don't like it, or don't wish to work out the follow-ups, or share your opinion for various other good reasons. Some might even think that Flannery wins the "most useless" contest.

But this is a systemic question, if you have to open 1C or 1D.
Since you dont play a weak NT, 1NT is out, if you want to go
creative, you can try out Pass.
With kind regards
