I was reading in rgb site today and ran across a very interesting "feature" of the Netbridgevu software I didn't know. I am sure many BBF users will make good use of this one...
Did you know you can convert your lin files to text files very easily? Here is the method, as posted by Fred in response to a query about converting unreadable (in human terms) lin files to text files...
(quote from Fred in blue)
"The functionality you are looking for is already
built into the BBO client. Follow these steps:
1) Run the BBO program.
2) Click the "open bridge movie on your computer
button" that appears BEFORE you log in.
3) Open the file in question.
4) Click the Print button on the toolbar.
5) You will be asked "export to text file?". Say "Yes".
6) A file named match.txt will appear in this folder:
c:bridge base online
If an old match.txt file is there it will be overwritten.
I realize this is not exactly obvious.

Wow... it is nice. A few matches didn't turn up right (the cards where not printed for some reason).... but when it worked, it worked very well.

The "export to a text file" function works with a "vg|" file, but not with a history.lin
The tip to make the function to work with a history.lin is to make a history.lin to look like a "vg|" file, adding
vg|MyHistory,2003-12-3,P,1,1,,,,|rs|6CS-1,|pn||pg||
qx|o1|
at the very beginning of the history.lin

PS : no need to say that you can change MyHistory, the date, the P(airs) for a I(mp) and the result

I found out why the file is saved without hands. On my computer at least, if you open the file and then from the scoreboard click on any hand, then go back to the scoreboard and click the print (save to file) button. The result that is saved is not satisfactory.
The work around then, is to simple close the file and open it again. Then, before looking at any single hand, click the print (save to text file) button. Walla, works like a charm.

The same on my computer.
Thanks for the tip.
The export function is very good.
